What Are My First Steps to Selling My Home?
The best thing you can do if you’re going to sell your house in 2027 is to start right now – declutter your home.
I went to visit a property this past week belonging to a seller who’s lived in their house for over 20 years and is thinking about selling. We’re not going to list until 2027, and they want to know what they should be doing.
My advice was to go through every closet, everything. Because when it comes time to move, you’ll have less to move. You’ve lived here for a long time, so you’ve probably accumulated a lot of things.
Go ahead and take this time right now. You get busy with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all the holiday cheer and fun, so start decluttering your home now. Give it away, donate it, sell it. That is the best return on investment you can get to prepare for selling your house.
Number two was to start cleaning.
I want all the light switches and all the door jambs where everybody puts their greasy hands to be wiped clean. But don’t do that until after the holidays, because you’ll need to clean them again.
Remember the light switches, fans, light fixtures, and every little socket especially. Oof!
Pay attention to those door jambs and the doors around the doorknobs where everybody puts their hands. Or, if it’s a highly trafficked area and you’ve got trim on the side, people put their hands right there.
I mean, I’m guilty of that, too. You grab it and swing around. I don’t know why. Maybe I think I’m going to get somewhere faster.
But anyway, that’s your tip for the day.
